      Board members are appointed by the County Commissioners.  Joint Powers Boards have both City and County members.  Board members elect their own officers and set their meeting schedules.  All Boards contain at least one County Commissioner serving as a member or liaison.

      Special Districts are created either by Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners, by Petition of local landowners or by the State Board of Agriculture through a Petition of landowners.  All of the above require public notification and some may require a referendum.  The method of creation is  determined by the type of District.  WY Statute: 22-29-103

       Special District Board members are elected not appointed.  Ad Valorem Taxes may be levied for funding upon voter approval.

County Clerk FAQs

Q. What do I need to obtain a Marriage License?
A. There is a $30 fee.  You also need to provide your own witness along with proof of SSN and some form of photo ID.

Q. How do I vote absentee?
A. Obtain an absentee voter form from the Johnson County Clerk.

Q. How do I contact the Johnson County Landfill?
A. The phone number for the Johnson County Landfill is 307-684-2541.

Q. Can I reserve a camping spot at the Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area?
A. All camping spots at the Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area are on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

Q. Where can I acquire a passport? 
A. Passports are available from the Clerk of District Court Office at the Johnson County Judicial Center, 620 West Fetterman St, Suite 208, (307)684-7271. Applications will be accepted from 8am – 4pm Monday thru Friday.

Q. What is the phone number for Jury Duty information? 
A. (307)684-9295

Q. How do I get an address for my property located in the county? 
A. Call 684-1907 or email jwaller@nulljohnsoncowy.us to request an address be assigned.

Q. Where can I check on employment openings for Johnson County Government?

Q. Where can I register to vote? 
A. Johnson County Clerk’s Office
