If your child is under the age of 19 and suspected or known to have a disability or chronic illness, and if you'd like help paying for diagnosis, evaluation, or treatment, contact Johnson County Public Health at
684-2564 to set up an interview. Your child may qualify for the Children's Special Health program even if he or she already has insurance, Kid Care CHIP, or EqualityCare.
 

CSH pays only for specialty medical care related to the approved diagnosis or condition up to $40,000 annually.

Examples of Special Health Care Needs
  • Physical problems such as a heart condition, cleft lip/palate, cerebral palsy, or club foot
  • Chronic health problems such as seizures, hearing loss, or diabetes

Covered Services

  • Care coordination
  • Specialty medical care
  • Some equipment and medications
  • Lab work and x-rays related to diagnoses
  • Support services
  • Diagnostic evaluation to determine diagnosis
Examples of Developmental Concerns
  • Premature birth
  • Not seeming to notice noises
  • Appearance of being "floppy"
  • Looks different than other children

  • Acute illness, such as a cold or sore throat
  • Recent fractures, wounds, or accidents
  • Infections
  • Allergies
  • Emergency room visits
  • Ambulances
