The Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area is a county owned facility located on the south shore of Lake DeSmet 8 miles north of Buffalo, WY off exit 51 of I-90. Each year, Lake DeSmet is visited by locals and travelers from across the country who enjoy fishing, boating, swimming, camping and pristine views of the water and surrounding mountains.

Camping is available on a first come/first serve basis at this site.
- Over 60 overnight camping spots ($10 per night)
- 8 camping sites with electricity ($15 per night)
Available at no charge:
- 2 boat ramps
- Picnic areas for day use at beach area on south side
- 4 restrooms (1 open year round)
Overnight camping fees are paid on the “honor ” system. Fees are $15 per night for sites with electricity and $10 per night for sites without electricity.

Per Mikesell/Potts Regulations, “Commercial solicitation may be allowed in designated areas by written permission from the Mikesell/Potts Recreation Area Supervisor. An administrative fee may be assessed. Such fee shall be set annually and are available at the Mikesell/Potts website at www.johnsoncountywyoming.org under the Mikesell/Potts Department tab or at the Mikesell/Potts Office at 325 Butte Street, Buffalo, WY.”
If you are interested in requesting permission please submit a letter of request stating your name, contact information, business name, nature of business and dates you are requesting permission to sell your product at Mikesell/Potts to Mikesell/Potts Recreation Area, Attention: Supervisor, 325 Butte Street, Buffalo, WY 82834 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
